Rooted in Adventure: Forest School Sparks Exploration and Growth!

A group of eager learners, stepped into the wild, excited for their adventure ahead last week. The forest around them was alive with the sound of leaves rustling and birds singing as the sun filtered through the trees. They gathered around their forest school leaders eagerly ready to start their session.

The first task was to build a fire, with guidance, the learners worked together, collecting dry twigs, kindling, and larger logs. They carefully arranged the wood, using flint and steel to spark the first flame. The warmth from the fire was a welcome touch as it was rather chilly. Next, the learners rolled up their sleeves and got cooking! Over the fire, they boiled water for noodles and fried some bacon. They were eager to taste the food they’ve prepared. They also got to make hot chocolate over the fire too.

After eating, it was time for some fun! The group split into teams for an exhilarating game of Manhunt. The learners and tutors ran through the forest, weaving between trees, hiding behind bushes, and used their wits to stay hidden or catch their peers.

Next, they headed to the rope swings, where they took turns soaring through the air, their feet leaving the ground for brief moments of pure freedom. Each swing is met with gleeful shouts and wide smiles. After the rope swings the learners headed to the nearby stream. They gathered rocks, sticks, and mud, working as a team to build dams across the flowing water.

As the session came to a close, the learners sat around the fire once more, very happy, having learned new skills and had so much fun!

Forest school is more than just a day outdoors; it’s about fostering a love for exploration, teamwork, and the wonders of the natural world!
