Motor Vehicles - Exhausts to Health & Safety
This week's on Level 1 mechanic class, the focus was on understanding car exhaust systems, as well as reinforcing knowledge on health and safety practices in the workshop environment. (L1 AM09) Module.
The tutor began by explaining the essential components of a car's exhaust system, highlighting their functions and importance in vehicle performance. Learners learned about the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, muffler, and tailpipe, and how they work together to guide harmful gases away from the engine and reduce noise pollution.
During the workshop session, learners were encouraged to explore relevant materials, such as manuals, diagrams, and online resources, to deepen their understanding of exhaust systems. They learned to identify common issues like rust, leaks, and damage, as well as the significance of regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety.
However, the tutor clarified the importance of health and safety practices in the workshop. Learners reviewed safety protocols for handling tools and equipment, lifting heavy objects safely, and wearing appropriate protective gear like gloves and goggles. They also discussed the importance of maintaining a clean and organized workspace to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries
